"What we experienced in our childhood often profoundly influences our current thoughts, feelings, and actions." – The game "My Inner Doubtful Child" offers professionals a highly sensitive tool for reflecting on and healing these inner dynamics.

It is based on working with the so-called "Doubtful Child" – an inner part that represents old wounds, negative beliefs ("I am not good enough," "I am not lovable"), and unfulfilled needs.

Through 13 symbolic game fields, the game leads to an inner dialogue where the Doubtful Child asks questions to finally be seen, heard, and understood. This playful distance helps to process complex and burdensome issues in a safe setting – gently but effectively.

The game is particularly suitable for supporting individuals with early attachment wounds, emotional neglect, or deeply internalized protective strategies. It creates space for insight, empathy, integration – and new security in the here and now.

Its application requires trauma-sensitive expertise. Additionally, the game can be used psychoeducationally to collaboratively build basic knowledge about the "inner child."

Guided Inner Child Work with a Young Woman Struggling with Self-Esteem Issues

In a psychological counseling session, a professional guides a 27-year-old woman who suffers from severe self-doubt. She repeatedly expresses the thought of "not being good enough" – in relationships, in her professional life, and in her self-perception.

Together with the professional, she works with the trauma-sensitive biography game "My Inner Doubting Child". Already at the first game square, it becomes clear that she previously had little access to her inner child: "I only know that it
sometimes makes everything difficult for me."

At the third game square ("What do YOU think of me?"), she reacts emotionally: "Sometimes I think it's my fault that I don't function."The work
with the game creates a safe space in which she can, for the first time, develop compassion for this inner part of herself.

As the game progresses, she recognizes that her "doubting child" was silent for years and adapted significantly – out of fear of being hurt again. Especially the questions about appreciation(squares 8 and 9) act as healing impulses: "Maybe I was stronger as a child than I thought."

At the end of the session, she formulates concrete steps to give this inner part more security and attention in everyday life – for example, through mindfulness rituals, small self-esteem anchors, and clear boundaries in interpersonal relationships.

Conclusion:
Working with the game allowed her an initial, gentle access to a long-repressed inner part – with a noticeable emotional impact and
sustainable potential for her further developmental path.
